We are seeking a payroll manager to join our team in Claremont (Cape Town) to support and enhance the work of the finance and human resources teams respectively.

 

Overall Purpose of the Position:

 The payroll manager will:

  • ensure the timeous and accurate payment of salaries to all staff;
  • provide an effective and efficient data processing, retention and administration service in order to ensure accurate records of employees;
  • accurately manage and maintain the employee leave system; and
  • perform certain human resources administration functions under the supervision of the HR Manager.
Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager and HR Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks (amongst other duties):

 Payroll:

  • Preparing and processing the monthly payroll (200 staff)
  • Managing all administrative matters relevant to the payroll
  • Calculate and submit third-party payments timeously and accurately
  • Reconcile monthly payrolls with the accounting system  
  • Prepare and reconcile tax returns
  • Assist employees with salary queries
  • Distributing pension fund statements and IRP5’s
  • Ensuring all monthly deadlines are met, including statutory deductions relating to monthly EMP201 and bi-annual EMP501 submissions
  • Ensuring tax compliance with all payroll matters, handling SARS queries and assisting employees with maternity leave submissions
  • Keeping up to date with tax updates and other statutory changes
  • Managing the payroll system in terms of updates and required changes
  • Preparing annual payroll budget schedules
  • Compiling annual bonus and increase schedules
  • Any other ad hoc payroll related duties, when required

 

Human Resources

  • Creating, maintaining and updating all employee personal files
  • Liaising with all funds and third parties as required e.g. Pension Fund / Medical Aid / Department of Labour etc.
  • Administering UIF, Pension Fund, Medical Aid and Gap documentation as required
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with managers as well as employees to ensure a good flow of communication
  • Manage the online leave system and ensure that it is reconciled and up to date on a monthly basis.
  • Complete the submission for the annual NPO salary survey.
  • Complete the annual employment equity submissions.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all HR legislation.
  • Any other ad hoc HR related duties, when required
Qualification
  • Relevant BCom / HR / Payroll qualification from a recognised tertiary institution
Experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in payroll administration
  • Proficiency in relevant software packages (Sage experience would be advantageous)
  • Solid knowledge of payroll principles, processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of provisions of Basic Conditions of Employment Act, statutory and legislative requirements in respect of PAYE, UIF, COIDA, etc.
